Embracing Homemaking: A Journey of 45 Years

Hello, lovely readers! I'm thrilled to welcome you to my little corner of the internet, where we'll embark on a journey of homemaking, heartfelt stories, and the joy of creating a warm and inviting home.

I'm Ellie, and my journey into homemaking began at the tender age of 16 when I became a wife for the first time and mom in 1978. (That makes it sound like I have been married lots of times! - I've been lucky, (so has he), to find my forever person back in 2001)

My first adult home was a married quarter, as my husband was serving in the British armed forces. It was a huge learning experience moving away from my parents home into a totally different world, with its ups and downs of young motherhood and learning how to manage a household. Actually if I'm completely honest it was exhausting, exhilarating and rewarding.

Looking back those early life experiences sparked a lifelong passion within me for homemaking and a simpler way of life in comparison to todays hustle and bustle. ( Wow that makes me sound pre-historic LOL)

What makes me a self confessed homemaking expert?

With a varied career in the service and retail industries. My life so far has taken me to all parts of the U.K. (United Kingdom) and Europe and now Canada to have lived in 21 different homes and to have basically self taught myself how to manage a home. My family will testify that my cooking skills have improved a lot over the past 40 years (the first 5 were terrible- thank goodness for frozen foods and youtube).

A decade ago, my husband (my for ever person) and I made the exciting move to Canada.

Here, amidst the breathtaking landscapes, we've continued our love for crafting, writing, and entertaining. From hosting dinner parties to BBQs, and camping extravaganzas our home is always open, filled with the warmth of shared laughter and delicious, homemade meals and a place we all call home.

And, of course, our small, furry family member—our beloved dog, our fur baby, who brings endless joy to our home. I even named my greeting card store after her, Damson's Doodles on Etsy.

Not forgetting the 5 amazing children I have and their partners, our 11 grandchildren and a beautiful great-granddaughter. Not that you need to be with some one, or a parent to be a homemaker but these are the key factors why I can say I've earnt my expert status, and now its time to share this knowledge.

Today, I want to extend my hand to you, whether you're a seasoned homemaker, a parent or someone taking the first steps into creating a nurturing home environment. Join me as we explore the beauty of homemaking—sharing stories, learning from each other, and embracing the joy that comes with making a house a home.

Thank you for being here, and I can't wait to connect with you all, and yes I do talk in brackets/parentheses (LOL)

See ya later, Ellie
